Tower of London
The Tower's craggy walls guard all sorts of grisly delight, from displays detailing gruesome end of traitors to the Royal Armoury's swords, poleaxes, morning stars (spiky maces) and cannons.
The Yeoman Warders - popularly known as Beefeaters - have lurid tales to tell on their free, hour-long tours too. Less bloodthristy visitors can admire the glittering Crown Jewels (get there early to avoid long queues) and the beautiful Medieval Palace, with its reconstructed bedroom, throne room and tranquil private chapel
